When you put 2 or three of the same rooms next to each other they will fuse together. This is beneficial because it means you can fit more dwellers in them and reduce resource production times making more valuable use of the space.

If you upgrade one room before placing down another it won’t meld together until both rooms are the same level.

Planning your vault in the early stages of the game is crucial for long term success and to keep up with the requirements of the vault that will continue to expand and grow in both size and population.

Another important part of resource and room mangement is making sure that your dwellers are in the room that best suits their skill or specifically in Fallout their S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats.

For example, a dweller with high Strength will better perform in the power rooms. Placing them in their will not only increase the production output rates but it will also make that dweller happy because they are doing something they are good at.

Note: Some dwellers at the start of the game will have very basic stats, meaning they will be even across most  S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats. Putting them in any room which is any highest stat will work.

Objectives are there for a reason, that reason, Caps and Lunchboxes. Both useful for the growth and success of your vault. By completing objectives you can get a handful of caps needed for that next upgrade much quicker than your usual waiting times.

Lunch boxes on the other hand are nice little goodies which have 4 cards in them all with the chance to get rare items or people and a bulk of caps. They do not creep up often as a goal but when they do prepare for them to be much tougher than the average objective. Examples are collect 2000 of a resource in either power, food or water.

As your vault grows, objectives will become tougher asking you to do more but the rewards also become better. Starting at around 25 caps and going up in the hundreds as your progress. If there is a objective you don’t like, once a day you can remove one objective for a new one.

Fallout shelter allows you to rush production of your resources and better yet, it is free! The downside however is there is some risk to take if you want the reward of not having to wait. By rushing you can cause fires, radroach infestations and raider attacks.

To help you prepare or choose each room has a percentage but its not what you might think. The percentage stands for the chance it will fail, so 30% means there is a 70% chance of success. Don’t be deceived 30% is the highest you should really risk your vault dwellers safety, more so in the early stages of the game.

Risk is reduce when dwellers in the room have a high luck SPECIAL stat combined with their high stat for that room can bring the rush risk down to 0% dwellers like Mr. Burke are good at this.

5. Armour is useful for rooms and the wasteland

Armour in Fallout Shelter has multiple uses, it can increase the stats of your dwellers which in turn can increase production rates in your resource rooms but it can also help your dwellers be a little tougher which can help in raids and wasteland exploration.

Using armour effectively can make your dwellers work better in your rooms until you are able to increase their stats by training them.

In the early parts of the game it might be tempting to go into the wasteland to explore and get weapons, armour and caps but it can be counter productive. If your dweller is not kitted out with a decent gun, armour, Stimpaks and RadAway they might end up dying early on. This will then cost you caps to revive them.

You might also have equipped your good stuff to that one or two people you have sent off into the world. Leaving your vault under-protected when raiders come to scavenge.

Focus on building up your vault, levelling up your dwellers and completing goals. Lunch boxes from objectives will give you some armour you can use to then slowly venture forth to bring back more equipment for other dwellers.

SPECIAL stats when in the wasteland will help your dweller survive.

Strength will help them right tough enemies
Perception will helps finding items and lasting longer by noticing enemies
Endurance helps you survive longer
Charisma helps you barter with other survivors
Intelligence helps you escape enemies
Agility helps you escape enemies
Luck will help find better and more weapons and armour

Babies are a great way to increase the population of your vault and in turn unlock new rooms to progress further as the greatest Overseer. To produce babies, all you need to do is put a man and women dweller in one of your living quarters and wait for them to chat and get friendly.

Once this happens they will make way out the back to do what mother nature intended. After a little while your new dweller will be born and the child will normally take on stats cimilar to their parents. This means that putting two dwellers with good stats together will help you reproduce better skilled dwellers.

Remember not to overdo the baby making. Too many will put a strain on your vault and increase the need for more food and water and take up space for adult dwellers. Children can not fight or produce resources so they are a space user until they become an adult.

When problems happen in the vault, your dwellers in the room will start to tackle the problem. This could be raiders, fire or radroaches but the longer it takes the more health those dwellers will lose and if they die it can be costly to revive them.

This is where numbers help, by dragging dwellers into rooms which are having incidents will increase the numbers of people fixing the problem. Ultimately this will solve the problem quicker, with less health and minimise the risk of death.

Once the incident is over, dwellers not in that room will automatically go back to their own rooms.

Fallout Shelter like most mobile games still has timed actions like resource production and making babies and growing them into adults. When you are away from the game making sure you leave it in the best shape will get the most return.

These steps will help you for when you next come back:

• Make sure all rooms have dwellers in them. A room without a dweller won’t produce any resources. Of course make sure that the best dweller for that room resides in the room to maximise resource production.
• Level up your rooms with any spare caps you have. This will increase production output but also storage space for your resources produced while you are away.
• Rush any rooms with low risk. After time risk will decrease in rooms again so make use of the chance to gain additional resources.
• Put a male and female in the living quarters. This will allow the two dwellers to get to know each other, have a baby and let it grow some before you come back.

While you are away, incidents don’t happen, you won’t come back to a burnt down vault or raiders attacking. So the time can be used well to collect resources and expand your vault while being able to prepare for when your back and the raiders can attack.
