So, what did Ubisoft present at E3 2019? First up, was the new Watch Dogs game. Set in London, in a not so distant future, liberties are almost none existent. From the trailer and gameplay footage given, private militaries and crime syndicates are running the show. But, a resistance is brewing and you get to take London back.

In the alpha gameplay, the player gains the ability to control a plethora of characters. One of the features of the game is that you can play as anyone in the resistance. Ranging from MMA fighters, hackers, and an old lady armed with tasers and a robot spider! The footage quickly shows that the player can also inspect other characters in the world and presenting their skill sets for potential recruitment.

Overall thoughts on the reveal are fairly positive. It possesses an engaging feel, the allure is present with not so distant future excitement, and freedom to recruit your own characters is something to look forward to. The only worry is whether the open world element will be too big and collectibles will overwhelm the player. Gentle secretion of areas, collectibles, and challenges are key to keeping the engagement of the players. Games such as God of War and Spider Man have shown this. Fingers crossed this will follow suit.

The next game that followed was Rainbow Six: Siege. eSports cast for the game, Parker “Interro” Mackay talked to us about the journey thus far. With 52 unique operatives, 12 seasons under their belt, and an established eSports scene, Rainbow Six has a solid place in the FPS genre. He also inform us of some details revolving around season 13.

Season 13, which is to be called Operation: Phantom Site, will feature two new operators for the game. These are Nook and Warden. A brief look into Warden was given afterwards. The operator is a US Secret Service character who utilises gadgets such as deployable cameras and vision goggles that can see through smoke. The update is now live, which the players could jump into on June 12th.

Other R6 news was the new PvE experience called Quarantine. This 3-player tactical co-op takes players through a heart pumping, horror styled, survival mode. These encounters will test the players abilities to stay alive against an unknown parasite and the creatures that come with it. Quarantine is due to be released early 2020.

It is nice to see support for a franchise turn over for it’s 4th year. It’s even nicer to see a community and fan base still going strong when it’s approaching nearly half a decade old. Building games and communities like this is very important for the industry. Supporting it like the team has done is a wonderful thing to see. The new content should keep the game fresh.

Onto Ghost Recon now and with the upcoming sequal to Wildlands. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, coming to PC, PS4, and XBox One is set for an October 2019 release. The beta is due to be live September 5th 2019.

In these narrative sequal, the Ghosts, the players, are tasked to take on their former brothers and sisters in arms. Under the command of Cole D. Walker, played by Jon Bernthal recently know for the Marvel Punisher series, this new special ops company, known as The Wolves, aim to be “what the worlds needs”. With a technological advantage, and man power equal to an army, the player will be tested to their limits to overcome the new threat.

Other news includes the Delta Company, a global community based project. Cosplayers, streamers, fan pages, discussions, and tournaments can take centre stage with the full backing of the game’s team. Also, there has been teased a Terminator themed event for the game in the future.

General opinions of the updates as a whole are pretty positive. The sequel allows the players to engage in combat with a threat that isn’t your usual bad guys. It offers increase challenge against a well prepared, well manned, and equally skilled force. The Delta Company features also allow for a greater community experience that is supported by the devs. Great feel all round.

A brief reveal for the next section. This time showcasing For Honor excitement. A new game mode that is available now until June 27th allow players to try out a new game mode called Soul Rush. In this new game mode, a spectral otherworldly feel of a village is the centre stage. This village is home to a Samurai who is referred to as the spirit of death.

In this limited time event, players can unlock spectral customisations for each of their heroes. They will just have to survive the onslaught of spirits and foes first! Not much was revealed of the event however. So, it will be the case of just jumping straight in for those who own For Honour.

Opinions of this reveal are ok. It is cool to see continued support for older games. It would have been nice to have a brief talk about such an event however. Even if it was just a couple of minutes. Also, it would have been nice if this event was available as a free to play. It would give tempted players a chance to try out the game first and potentially convince them into buying the full game.

Moving away from current game titles now. The senior producer for Ubisoft Quebec, Marc-Alexis Cote, took centre stage to talk about the team behind Assassin’s Creed and the exploration of the history books. This lead onto the stories of Mythology which links from the most recent Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey release.

The video that follows his speech features a vibrant and colourful world. This world is set in a mythical background with creatures such as Harpies and Gorgons. As the narrator informs the viewers, the games premise is presented. You are the hero who the gods call for help. This is the new game from the same studio that brought your the aforementioned Assassin’s Creed title; this is Gods and Monsters.

This new title is very pleasing to the eyes from the announcement trailer. Provided it will keep the aesthetics and design, its beautiful art style is sure to encaptivate players upon release. It is due to release February 25th 2020 whereby players will be tested in there abilities to fight all manner of mythical characters to defend the land and gods.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet

Their were a plethora of other announcements in the Ubisoft presentation. One of which was headed by Only Sunny In Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney. He reveal that a new TV series was in the mix. The series follows a game development team who are at the helm of the most successful and popular MMORPG at the time, Mythic Quest. It follows them as they tackles the daily stresses of the job and of the egotistical creative director, Ian Grimm played by Rob. This comedy is to be released on Apple TV+ in the future.

Brawlhalla

For the pick up and go stage based hero brawlers, Brawlhalla has some exciting news. It is partnering with Cartoon Network to bring you some Adventure Time content. This includes three new characters, Jake, Finn, and Pricess Bubblegum. Also, there will be a new team based buddy mode, and a new tree fort stage.

Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad

Onto mobile now and coming to Android and iOS is Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad. This is going to be a free to play 5vs5 character collection game. Gather your favourite characters from franchises such as The Division, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon to battle in the campaign mode, other players, and form guilds. Level them up, upgrade their gear, and form the best elite squad.

Just Dance 20

Accompanied by a big group of professional dancers, the next installment of Just Dance will be around the corner. As this is Just Dance’s 10 year anniversary, they promise it will be another great year for showing off your moves with your friends and family. Due to release November 2019, this edition will be available for Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Wii, and the new cloud gaming service Google Stadia.

The Division 2

With The Division 2 firmly planted within the community with a well received release, more content is on it’s way. These come in the forms of episodes. Each episode will bring more challenges, story, and loot for the players. They will take you to national zoos, tracking down dangerous traitors in the pentagon, locating military convoys gone dark, and participating in the 2nd 8 player raid. Another announcement was made that the Netflix series for the game will arrive in 2020 directed by David Leitch staring Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Uplay+

To support the game reveals of the event, a new service was detailed in the form of Uplay+. This service, coming September 2019, will allow you play 100+ games from the Ubisoft catalog. You will also gain early access to titles, premium editions, and DLCs. This comes in at $14.99 a month and will be available to PC with Google Stadia due in 2020.

Roller Champions

The last game to be revealed is the new title called Roller Champions. There was a free alpha demo made available the week of E3 where players can delve into the team based, high speed, roller skates sports game. It might a little while before the next test/beta will be available but, an alternative sports game might be refreshing when it hits the shelves

Closing thoughts on the entire Ubisoft presentation are quite positive. The new titles are interesting and incite excitement. There could have been more details given but, that could alwas be said from a first announcement. The additions to existing property keep the associated games alive and kicking which is great for existing players. It would be nice to see more free to play weekends in co-operation to said additions allowing tempted players to see for themselves whether it is for them.

Other than that, the slot as a whole was entertaining, informative, and provides something for everyone. Whether it be the combat seekers, sports players, pick up and go-ers, and fantasy guys and gals. To prospect of a two TV series also shows that the video game industry supplies the entertainment industry in more way than one.
