Industry Veterans Bring Outrise To Life

Outrise is still very early in development, but it is no doubt one to watch. Envisioned by founder James Wearing and his team of AAA game designers, the title is in the hands of some of the best in the industry. Collectively, the team have worked on titles such as Far Cry 3, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty and Hawken, but are now venturing into new territory.

The game is set in 2094AD, where two factions are fighting for control of the earth’s single remaining financial system. The world is ruled by just one government enforcing a ruthless police state, with freedom and democracy no where in sight. All is not lost, however, as beneath the streets a network of resistance fighters are biding their time, waiting for the perfect moment to take back the system. They are known as the Outrise.

Outrise is described by developers as a multiplayer title with a focus on boss fights and asymmetrical game play. The team summarise the game’s direction as ‘a multiplayer Shadow Of The Colossus meets Left 4 Dead and with old school Sci-fi look and feel,’ earmarking Bladerunner and RoboCop amongst their visual inspirations.

Outrise will see players taking on the role of both the freedom fighters and the huge bosses they face. The game also has a focus on strategy rather than all out violence, as players must work out the most efficient way to topple their gigantic foes. Likewise, those taking on the role of the bosses must keep a watchful eye over the battlefield to keep the resistance at bay.

So far everything revealed about Outrise is hugely impressive and well conceptualised. The gameplay approach sounds ambitious but will be spectacular if pulled off well, while the story is intriguing and the concept art is beautiful. The team are still working out the finer points of production but are eager to get everything started. They most recently expressed leaning towards crowdfunding, asking members of the online community what kind of rewards they would like to see from supporting the game’s production.

There may still be a long road ahead, but it’s going to be an exciting ride. For a more in-depth look at the game so far, be sure to check out the offical Outrise website.
