Insomniac Games, the studio behind the Ratchet & Clank series on PlayStation and Xbox One launch title Sunset Overdrive, have revealed the name of their latest game in development alongside a trailer.
Song of the Deep is a metroidvania action adventure game set completely underwater. You play as Merryn, a girl searching for her long lost father after he never returned home from a fishing voyage. As you traverse the subterranean wonders you’ll come across various ancient civilizations and ruins, inhabited by friends and foes alike.
You can upgrade your submarine as you progress with various abilities and powers, unlocking more areas of the ocean to explore. Enemies can range from simple lantern jellies to fierce bosses and you’ll have to outwit and outmanoeuvre every single one of them.
Interestingly, this is GameStop’s first venture into being a publisher with Mark Stanley, GameStop’s Senior VP of Marketing & Sales explaining they’re just testing the waters and will re-evaluate future opportunities after Song of the Deep releases in an interview with gamesindustry.biz.
Song of the Deep is scheduled for a Summer 2016 release with a $15 price point (UK price unconfirmed) and you can view the first trailer below. More information can be found at songofthedeep.com.
