In an interview with Famitsu magazine re-posted by Siliconera, SEGA’s Chief Operating Officer Naoya Tsurumi talks about the possibility of Atlus working on some of SEGA’s older IPs.
SEGA recently acquired Index Corporation, the parent company of Atlus, after it filed for bankruptcy in September. Since then, Atlus has announced new games in its Persona series of JRPGs, including the long awaited Persona 5.
In the interview, Tsurumi is asked by Famitsu about JRPGs, and how the acquisition would help SEGA publish more of them. When asked about SEGA’s older IPs, the COO replied:
“While we have no intention of forcing this, we’d definitely love to have them utilize any of Sega’s dormant IPs…..there are plenty that haven’t been active. [laughs] However, the new company just recently got started, so there’s nothing on the table for now, but we’ll definitely be giving it more thought.”
This would surely be an interesting turn of events, as SEGA have many classic JRPG series that could benefit from a new entry or a new developer. Games such as Skies of Arcadia, Shining Force or Phantasy Star would obviously benefit from a new entry from the makers of Persona 4, the thought of which would obviously excite many fans.
