EA Will Hold Star Wars License for the Next 10 Years

It may have been the most cruel of teasers, but many fans were bowled over by the announcement of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 at this years E3. It was even better news that the game was being developed by EA owned studio DICE. This left many people happy with EA’s ownership of the Star Wars license.

The extent to which EA owns the right to make Star Wars related games has recently come out in an interview with EA CFO Blake Jorgensen. Posted via NeoGaf, Jorgensen stated:

“they came to us because of our partnership and they knew that we could help them develop really great games and we struck what we believe is a fantastic deal which allows us to be able to build games in many different genres across multiple types of platforms over 10 years and we’ll leverage the strength of the Disney marketing associated with the Star Wars properties both in movies and other things that they may do over the timeframe. “

Seems like we should get used to the idea of EA and Star Wars going hand in hand in the games industry, at least for the next decade. This could mean great things for the property, with EA being associated with many of the industries best developers. No one wants to go back to the brief period when the Star Wars brand name meant a terrible game. We are looking at you Jedi Power Battles and Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

What do you think? What was your favorite Star Wars game? Let us know in the comments.
