League of Legends has been recognised as a professional sport by the US Government. In an interview on Gamespot Riot Games’ eSports Manager Nick Allen revealed that the MOBA game has been accepted as a sport by government meaning international players competing in the Championship Series will be awarded US visas.
Allen called this decision “ground breaking for eSports” which is certainly true. With a little luck and persistence many other eSports may get the same treatment which would be a great way to help gamers see the world while still playing the games they love.
