This is our unofficial guide for how to find the Retro Levels in Streets of Rage 4.

In four of the game’s twelve levels, you can find a Bare Knuckle arcade machine and a taser. This is a reference to Streets of Rage 2, which also had these machines in it’s third level. If you pick up the taser and punch the arcade machine with it, you will be transported to a specific retro level.

During the level, you will fight against a boss character previously seen in that specific retro level. Simply defeat the boss to proceed. If you lose a life during this fight, you will be transported out of the Retro Level and back to the normal stage.

Retro Level 1

Original Game: Streets of Rage 2: Stage 1

Boss Character: Jack

In Game Location: Stage 2: Police Precinct

How To Unlock: Before you get to the second security gate, you will be forced to fight a security guard. Simply defeat him and pick up the taser he drops. The arcade machine is through a door just before you reach the gate. Zap it by using the taser and you will be taken to the first Retro Level.

Retro Level 3

Original Game: Streets of Rage 2: Stage 3

Boss Character: Zamza

In Game Location: Stage 4: Old Pier

How To Unlock: About halfway through the stage, you will come to an Arcade building, with a few security guards waiting outside.

Simply grab the taser from one of the capped guards and enter the arcade to find the Bare Knuckle arcade machine. Simply zap the machine to be transported to the second Retro Level.

Retro Level 3

Original Game: Streets of Rage 2: Stage 4

Boss Character: Abadede

In Game Location: Stage 5: Underground

How To Unlock: When you reach the bar area of the stage, you will encounter a group of punk enemies nearby an arcade machine. Simply pick up the taser that is on the floor by the pillar and zap the machine to reach the next Retro Level.

Retro Level 4

Original Game: Streets of Rage 2: Stage 8

Boss Character: Shiva and Mr. X

In Game Location: Stage 8: Art Gallery

How To Unlock: In the area before you fight the main bosses of the stage, you will find an arcade machine and a taser lying on the floor in front of it. Simply zap the arcade machine to be taken to the final Retro Level.
