VGU Talks: Fallout 4 Announcement, Reaction & Impressions
Update – It has been confirmed that the setting of the game will be in Boston, Massachusetts. This makes it the second game in the series to be based on the East side of the USA. Unconfirmed still if the NCR will still have a presence but now it is looking very unlikely.
It has arrived. The official trailer for Fallout 4 has been revealed via Bethesda’s website. In the trailer we see a bunch of content concerning the title and what we could end up exploring this time in the post nuclear wastes.
First off we notice a dog, a well animated dog at that, exploring an abandoned house hit by the fallout. Whilst we are exploring this place with the animal we see some interesting snaps from before and after the nukes fell. This could be hinting to how we start to play the game. Maybe upon creating our character we learn the basic controls in the pre-fallout era and then have to run towards the vaults guarded by the Brotherhood of Steel as the inevitable doom approaches.
Next of interest is the Brotherhood themselves. They seem to play a prevalent roll in this game like in Fallout 3 which brings into question the whereabouts of the NCR (New California Republic). An updated form of the power armour can be seen near the end of the trailer as the camera pans up it. Since the main character seems to be close to this workshop, it could be guessed that he is or was a part of the Brotherhood of Steel before or after the nuclear fallout. Either that or the workshop was previously occupied by the Brotherhood but has to be evacuated due to ghouls, radiation, other threats etc.
There doesn’t seem to be any immediate identification as to where the game is taking place, although we do see a lot of similar areas. It is interesting to note that this does have a more Fallout 3 look to it with large city spaces rather than a open wasteland. This could be hinting towards a larger world with a balance between the two elements or a similar city to the capital wasteland.
Overall the trailer was as predicted, pretty darn excellent. Now we can wait to see if Bethesda have more in store for us come E3 which is just around the corner. What do you think about Fallout 4’s reveal? Let us know what you think in the comments.
