VGU Talks – Did Deep Silver Screw Mighty No.9?
Comcept and Deep Silver have released Mighty No.9 and it may just be one of the most disappointing titles of the year and gaming history. The Kick Starter project was one of the most successful inspiring a collection of companies and indie developers to see if they can get their titles crowd funded in the same way. But who is to blame for the quality of Mighty No.9? Personally, I throw that into the court of Deep Silver.
As much as the company has published good games in the past, they are not shy from having conflicting ideas with developers. One of the big victims of this was Techland who went on to create the very successful Dying Light. When I interviewed the lead designer prior to the games launch, he stated that they had conflicts with Deep Silver in the past when in development of Dead Island which resulted in them going solo and creating their new zombie survival game.
With glitches, texture pops, levels missing, DLC codes not working and even versions of the game not given out to backers yet, Mighty No.9 along with Deep Silver and Comcept may just end up going down in history as the game everyone wanted to see succeed but fell at the first hurdle. But it’s okay I guess, after all “It’s better than nothing”.
