Anime fans and gamer fans would have probably heard of Sword Art Online and maybe Accel World, two of the most popular virtual MMO titles in the anime sphere. Bandai Namco has published the joining of the two worlds from author Reki Kawahara. 99% of anime goers would have most likely heard of SAO but Accel World might need some explaining.
Accel World is another VR MMO type anime that sets place in the future much like Sword Art Online’s world. In the world, people are equipped with Neuro-Linkers which is a special wearable collar which can do both Augmented and Virtual Reality. Brain Burst is an app that creates an AR and VR world for the fighting game in different environments using avatars which are created based on the inner personality of the user. Success in the virtual world collects points which can then be used for time-slowing superpowers in the real world.
Sword Art Online has made the better anime to game translation with many titles being pretty solid in their gameplay and story. We have not tried the Japanese titles of Accel World that have come out but they have not seemed to do as well.
The story of the game has been an addition to SAO: Lost Song with the centre of the narrative being based around Kirito and Asana trying to rescue their AI daughter Yui and this causes them to have to join their session with Accel World. This makes the cast of both shows interact but their impact on the story really does depend on how much you know and like Sword Art Online.
