HARDWARE REVIEW

Nitro Concepts S300 Fabric Gaming Chair Review

by Luke Walsh, February 1st, 2018

Any gamer needs a decent throne to descend upon when they are in the middle of action and time and time again we have spoken about the importance of a decent gaming chair. Over the past couple of years, Nitro has built up their range and their most recent it the Nitro Concepts S300 which is currently being sold via Overclockers.

Similar to the other chairs we have reviewed, the S300 comes packaged as mainly pre-built hence why it comes in a massive box. Inside the box, you’ll find the seat, backrest, chair spokes and pillow. Another box comes inside which contains all the accessories for the chair like the wheels, gas lift, screws and the tools needed to assemble etc. The assembly instructions are clear to follow and the chair should not take longer than 30 off minutes to complete.

Design wise, the Nitro Concepts S300 follows the same style guides as a lot of other chairs, with a high backrest, logo placement on the headrest and a bucket seat style dip into the back of the chair. The S300 comes in a range of colours from black, white, red, green, blue, orange and yellow. Each colour is quite vibrant and shows matched most setups and if you are not the flashy type the black is the most minimal, with the white chair we looked at being the next.

When built, you can see the S300 chair is slightly different to the other gaming chairs reviewed on the site. It’s the first chair I’ve looked at which is not wrapped in PU leather but rather a synthetic cloth. However, this does mean that the chair is not as hardy as the PU counterparts, losing some of the waterproofing but a nicer softer more comfortable finish. Leather or fabric really is down to preference, the latter being soft and warmer while the former is more hardy against liquids and pet hairs.

The seat and backrest are built using cold cured foam which is a common material in most gaming chairs. This foam allows you to buy a chair which you know will be sturdy and keep from losing it shape after use over a couple years, giving more life than your standard office chair. It also makes for a more breathable chair with better support on the parts of you that matter most after a long session.

The armrests, five-star base and casters are made from a Nylon/Polyurethane material which will be strong to withstand knocks and rolling on hardwood floors. Although harder it is something that can be a little too hard to rest your elbows on for a long time. Mainly though, your arms would rest flat when not gaming making it no problem to use. They also have multiple positions sliding forward, backward, upwards, downwards.  The wheels are probably the only thing that let it down as they could be a bit better built.

Similar to other chairs, you can recline the backrest up to -135 degrees and this seems a little less than other chairs on the market which can almost lay flat. It also has a slight issue with jolting as it descends to the further part of the chair. For the first time, you can feel like you are about to end up on the floor. It supports weights of up to 135 KG which is quite a lot and wide enough to fit most gamers.

You’ll get two different cushions for the chair one for the headrest and another for the lumbar support and the chair has two holes in the back to loop it through. Both cushions are soft and provide nice support for your head and lower back. It does not provide as much lumbar support as the TITAN from SecretLabs which has it built into the chair but pillows are not always needed and are chosen gamer to gamer.

Using the chair for a couple weeks, it has been a nice change of pace over the leather-based chairs as it is not so cold when you sit on it in the morning. I’ve been able to game on it for long periods but the lumbar pillow could be a little bit thicker/harder as it does not offer the same support that the noblechairs ICON does in the same time period.

The chair is well built though for the price, at £229.99 it is cheaper than the others on the market and although you can see it slightly it is still a well-built chair. It supports your weight and does not have the creeks and rocks as the cheaper office chairs or gaming chairs have on eBay from unknown manufacturers.

As with a lot of others, it is nice that assembly is always one of the easiest things with the chair and everything is provided making it possible to build the chair very quickly. You also get an extra bolt just in case you lose one which is a beneficial small touch. You’ll have plenty to adjust with the chair to make sure it suits the desk height or the perfect degree of recline to lay back at your desired angle.

Overall the Nitro Concept S300 chair might not be the best chair I’ve ever sat on but it is for its price. If you are a gamer on a budget but still want to pump some money in a chair that will give you comfort and lasting support, the S300 is a decent choice. You’ll need to be someone who does not mind a fabric chair and if you have pets be prepared for it to be a magnet for pet hair.

The Nitro Concept S300 is a decent chair for the budget conscious gamer. You won’t get the same detail as the more expensive chairs but for the price, you’ll get something that is comfortable, looks great and will outlast any office chairs you’d buy.
