The Logitech G240 mouse mat is the other alternative to Logitech’s other gaming surface the G440. The two models are the mirror of each other, the G240 cloth mouse mat is the soft matte gaming surface opposed to the hard more glossy G440 mouse mat.
With gaming surfaces having a very specific job, there is only so much you can do with something that is a surface to put your mouse on. Even with such a simple job the surface that you game on can be very important as our Logitech Stress Test revealed. Having previously used the G440 gaming surface and it being tuned to the G502 Proteus Core, it was immediately clear to see the difference in the both.
The G240 has a weaved designed with a rubberised matte texture, which slows your mouse movement but gives you greater precision, as opposed to the smoother surface of the G440. Movement on either mouse mat is good but they seem to be designed for different uses. The G240 feels like the mouse sticks to it more closely, allowing for smaller, more specific movement, which helped a precision action like sniping in Battlefield 4 much easier. Quick, smooth and long movements are fine but seemed much easier on the G440 which allowed for these more deliberate motions.
Packaging for the cloth mat is pretty minimalist, coming in a hexagonal tube rolled up with just a safety sheet. If you ever need instructions to use a gaming surface you can just do a quick Google search and all will be revealed. With the soft design comes improved portability, because it can be folded up unlike the G440. The G240 is the better choice to take to LAN or a friend’s house if you are space conscious. Speaking of space, the G240 measures about 13.4in x 11.0in / 340mm x 280mm. Being a non flick gamer, this was the perfect size for me and fitted on the desk easily without me ever feeling like I had run out of mat. If you are looking for something bigger, like using your whole desk as a surface, then this is probably not for you unless you decide to change the way you mouse.
