Borderlands POP Vinyl Figures
Borderlands is one of the truly great games of the past generation. 2K Games found the perfect balance between comedy and bullet hell chaos and concocted the three Borderlands games. If you know someone who’s just as big of a fan and likes collectible items, check out these POP Vinyl figurines from ThinkGeek. You can pick up the deceptive evil Handsome Jack or the utterly crazy Mad Moxxie with her trademark bright purple coat and top hat that will look fantastic on any gamer’s shelf.
Overwatch “The Cavalry’s Here” Poster
Overwatch has become the gaming industry’s golden child since its release earlier this year. Despite being a first-person shooter, the Pixas-esque art style makes it family friendly with a host of lovable characters but if you want to become truly great at the game, the skill ceiling is still so high that it’s swiftly been picked up by professional gaming circuits around the world. Artist Arnold Tsang has created a stylish poster that shows Tracer, the unofficial mascot for the game, using her Blink ability to lead the rest of the characters, minus Ana and Sombra as they’re only recent additions to the gang.
Fallout Vault-Tec Flask
Fallout is a well established and critically acclaimed series that has die hard fans all over the world. Vault 111 was introduced in Fallout 4 as the shelter the protagonist was kept in cryostasis to survive the Great War, before being rudely awakened to see his wife killed and young child kidnapped by mercenaries. Featuring the traditional blue and yellow colour scheme used by Vault-Tec across the Fallout universe, this hip flask is the epitome of badass. What better way to show you’re a Deathstalker slaying maniac than taking a swig of vodka from this bad boy?
Slightly more than £10 but the extra £1 is worth it!
Candy Crush Cakes & Bakes
Candy Crush has taken the mobile gaming world by storm since releasing back in 2012. It’s rarely left the top ten downloaded games on iOS and Android, being so addictive but also simple enough that even my 90 year old grandma will happily sit there swiping away and progressing through the levels, with sweet and sugary names such as the Butterscotch Boulders and Praline Pavillion. King, the developers of the match three wonder, have released a Candy Crush themed cookbook for all those budding cake makers and biscuit bakers. Featuring a whole host of sweet treats, you can’t go wrong for just £7.
Minecraft Official Handbooks
Minecraft captured the hearts and minds of children and adults across the world when it exploded in popularity thanks to YouTubers like SeaNanners and CaptainSparklez in 2010, then when it had its official release in 2011. It’s shown no sign of dying since then, with both Microsoft and Sony giving it official support, and it releasing on every platform on the market, from smartphones to the Wii U to the Raspberry Pi. These officially licensed Minecraft handbooks will set you back just £8 each and are the perfect companion to the sandbox survival game. Especially the redstone one if your giftee fancies themselves as a programmer.
Amazon, £3-4 each:
Super Mario A5 Journal
Featuring a hard cover with an elastic woven pen loop and a snazzy metal question mark block slider, this red Super Mario branded journal is the perfect gift for any student or organised busybody. Whether your giftee is 16 and wants to have the coolest notebook out of all of their mates at school, or 60 and they want to embrace their earlier years while at work, this gift will be useful to anyone.
Pokemon Red vs Blue Poster
Pokemon has never truly died in popularity, but the release of Pokemon GO earlier this year and Sun & Moon a couple of weeks ago has seen a huge resurgence in just how popular it is right now. This officially licensed Red vs Blue poster shows two of the original greats about to face off against one another; Blastoise vs Charizard, with a gorgeous typeface and art style, along with the physical stats for each Pokemon below the silhouettes of their previous evolutions. This would look incredible on anybody’s wall, and even better in a frame.
Super Mario Plush Backpack
Mario tends to have a lot of uses. He’s a plumber, he’ll save princesses, stomp on toads, there’s plenty of Mario keychains, buttons, bottle openers, posters, cookie cutters, apparel… you name it, there’ll be a version of it with Mario’s face on it. And now you can put things inside him too! This cute Mario plush backpack is another one to add to the list, but is perfect for looking cool, or perhaps you want to dress up as Luigi for Halloween or a fancy dress party but have nobody to be Mario? Now he can be on your back!
Assassin’s Creed Ezio Plushie
Like Borderlands, Assassin’s Creed is another one of those fantastic open world games that came about during the last generation and has stuck around with successful entries every single year. So successful in fact that there’s a Hollywood blockbuster movie coming out soon based on the games. So why not add another cute plushie to someone’s shelf of collectibles with this adorable little Ezio? It’s officially licensed by Ubisoft with a highly detailed and authentic outfit. He’s small and soft but he definitely means business.
