Nintendo hasn’t been showing a traditional press conference at E3 for many years now, but the Nintendo Direct and Treehouse format have become familiar to us as they move to a more digital and personal format than before. Like always, they had quite the show in store for us this year.
The direct opened immediately to a reveal of the newest fighter in Super Smash Bros, the Hero from Dragon Quest XI. Skin changes allow you to take the form of a few past Heroes from previous Dragon Quest mainline titles as well.
We’ve seen quite a bit on this title already, but it never hurts to have a little bit more.The Direct announced four-player co-op between four different colored Luigi’s. Other than that, just some nice little gameplay bits, and still no release date.
Remember The Dark Crystal? Maybe? Well, all three of you will be ecstatic to hear that a tatics-style game in the world of Dark Crystal has been announced for the Nintendo Switch, conveniently coming around the time of the partnership with Netflix, likely promoting the new series.
A completely unexpected announcement, the third and previously untranslated game in the Mana series is getting a complete remake and coming next year. Before that though, All of the other Mana games, including the original third game are available on the eShop now.
The Witcher finally comes to the Switch after years of rumors and discourse. Despite being such a massive game, the short bit of gameplay seemed to run great and fits all on one cartridge. Neat!
The Contra Collection was announced a few months ago alongside the Castlevania Collection and was stealthily dropped on the eShop on the same day as the direct. What was even more unexpected however was the announcement of a brand new Contra game from a top-down perspective. Wacky.
A cult-classic and solid rails shooter from the elusive Sega Saturn comes to the Switch in the form of a remake. Supposedly drops sometime this year, hopefully bringing newcomers to this niche series.
In a cheesy and true-to-form announcement, No More Heroes 3 was announced. With a huge cult following, and fans clamoring for a new game for years, this was an excellent announcement.
As per the usual, a slew of different games was announced or shown as switch titles during the conference. Some of the notable ones are as follows:
The new Animal Crossing finally had a reveal, matched with a delay. The new title takes place on a deserted island where the player character builds the town from the ground up, using new crafting and building systems to their advantage. The title was previously slated for 2019 and has since been pushed to March 2020.
The long-rumored and wanted Bear-Bird duo have finally come to Smash Brothers. As the 3rd fighter in the pack, fans have lost their collective minds over this announcement, as they should.
After the Smash announcement, Nintendo took our breath away once more when they announced a sequel to the launch title, Breath of the Wild. Most importantly, featuring a dead, decaying Ganon and a Zelda with short hair. This is a good time to be alive.
