When is Black Friday and what is it?

Black Friday as the name suggests always falls on the last Friday of November that follows the Thanksgiving US holiday. This means that for 2017, Black Friday will fall on November 24 and although we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, Black Friday has become a global shopping phenomenon.

Some stores even call is Black November as stores start to put on their best savings and biggest deals earlier than even just the Friday, preparing for the Christmas season. It has been rumoured that it’s called Black Friday because it is the sales day of the year big companies move their ledgers from the red into the black, i.e. make a profit.

It’s not only known for that or huge discounts, it’s a holiday which has become quite infamous for shoppers trying to break down doors to get in, trample over each other for cheap discounted television sets and fight over electronic appliances at rock bottom prices.

UK retailer John Lewis even reported that Black Friday had the highest sales in its 150 years as a company. Even Amazon had been reported to sell the most with it taking 35.7 percent of eCommerce sales on the internet alone.

So it is safe to say that Amazon, John Lewis, Currys and other retailers like Overclockers, GAME and Scan will be pushing their best deals running across most of their product range. The biggest deals usually come from mobile phone deals, video game deals and other electronics.
