The head of the Kickstarter campaign and co-creator of Video Games Live, Tommy Tallarico, announced that the funds necessary to complete Video Games Live: Level 3 have been amassed. With just under 18 hours to go at the time of writing, the campaign asked videogame music fans for $250,000, but has now reached a total of over $262,000.
The album will include live orchestral arrangements of music from over 20 games and series, including Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter II and Resident Evil, to name a small few. In a statement, Tallarico said:
“I would like to thank all of our backers, those who could not back but socialized the cause and to every single person who has ever attended Video Games Live, thank you! In the immortal lyrics from Portal: ‘This was a triumph. I’m making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS. It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction.’”
Tallarico also confirmed that Valve’s Dota 2 will be among the games featured on the album, with Valve composers Tim Larkin and Jason Hayes in on the collaboration. Video Games Live: Level 3 will be recorded by an orchestra boasting over 72 people (!) and 60+ person choir, as well as a rock band with a lead electric guitar – which, during the group’s live shows, has been played by Tallarico himself.
