Dragon Age: Origins was an amazingly ambitious game for its time, which sadly the sequel failed to capitalize on. Bioware is going full-force with their third entry to the franchise, so much so one generation of consoles just isn’t enough.

In Dragon Age: Inquisition Bioware are changing the world of Thedas once again. No longer stuck in cramped streets and areas, the world is opening up. “Long-term, we wanna get the studio back to the point where we are doing the Baldur’s Gates, where you feel like there’s this openness, this freedom,” said Mike Laidlaw, Creative Director on Inquisition. With the team also comparing it to the scale of Skyrim, they have set their own watermark, and it certainly is a high one.

With the larger changes also come the smaller, small being used as a relative term. The race of the Qunari will now be playable, with the player able to make their Inquisitor a horned man, or woman, of action. Dragons will also be rideable mounts, something it will surpass Skyrim at. The far away tactical-cam will also make a return for all platforms, with the option being previously locked to just PC.

A few story details have been dropped as well. Set shortly after the events of two, the veil completely ripped open, spilling all manner of demons into the world. This is already happening around the Templar/Mage war that began in Dragon Age 2 and will hopefully make for a rather epic conclusion if this is where this story arc ends.

As an extra bonus, a few screenshots have also been released. One interesting thing of note found in these is the role of Cassandra Pentaghast and Varric as companion, returning from Dragon Age 2. With Morrigan also returning, it seems familiar faces will be everywhere as the world goes down the drain. Take a look for yourself:

Dragon Age: Inquisition is still a long way off, not coming out until Fall 2014. With the next-gen being thoroughly underway by that point it will be interesting to see how Bioware take advantage of the new hardware. Dragon Age: Inquisition will be coming out on PS3. PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC late next year.
