After THQ closed its doors the future of Relic Entertainment’s Homeworld IP was in limbo. With no one immediately claiming it and fans hoping for some sort of future things looked bleak. Thankfully in April Gearbox bought the IP for $1.35 million.
Gearbox is revealing its plans for the series at PAX Australia by releasing both games in HD. Coming to digital distribution platforms, another generation of players will be able to experience the 1999 and 2003 games that spawned a passionate fandom.
It is unknown if the first will come with expansion “Homeworld: Cataclysm”. It is probably safe to assume that they have plans for this though that are yet unstated.
Hopefully if there is enough interest in the re-releases it will lead to a third game, something that would make a large number of fans giddy and foaming at the mouth.
What do you think? Will you get this HD release of a cult hit? Let us know in the comments.
