The guys over at Ouya are trying their best to give gamers more of a push to lay down £99.99 for their android based console. With many of the complaints being that the console has no games, Ouya is attempting to rectify this by tempting devs on crowd-funding sites.
“The Ouya $1M Free The Games Fund” promises to match the money gained through sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo from August 9th 2013 to August 10th 2014, or until the $1m is all tapped out. This sounds all fine and dandy but to qualify the game must reach a minimum of $50,000 and not go above $250,000. One last stipulation is that the game must be a Ouya exclusive for at least 6 months.
This is an interesting way of getting devs interested in working on the console. Perhaps it can turn the Ouya into something other than a living room emulator. If it supports hard-working indie devs who are doing good work it should be well worth it.
Any developers interested in the scheme can apply here.
What do you think? Is this a good idea or a desperate attempt at getting some interest in a dying console? Let us know in the comments.
