Nearly ten years ago, video game publisher Devolver Digital was formed of the desire to provide indie game developers a way to bring their software to a broader audience. With hits such as Hotline Miami, Serious Sam HD and Enter the Gungeon as part of their publishing portfolio, it would be fair to say they are meeting their goals. At E3 2019 which was held earlier this month, Devolver Digital opted to release a conference video, which informs consumers of their future content and parodies the conventions laid down by Nintendo and Sony in their Direct and State of Play presentations.
Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout
After an intense opening filled with blood and gore, the conference opted to show a brighter side to their upcoming content with Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout, a multiplayer game show styled experience starring multicoloured blobs. From races through obstacle courses to various types of mini game, this will be the life of the party when it hits PC and Consoles next year.
Devolver Bootleg
Like the movie industry, bootleg copies and clones of popular video games flood the market in various types of ways. Devolver have decided to parody this convention by releasing Devolver Bootleg, a compilation title filled with eight humourous clones of popular games. With titles such as Catsylvania and Hotline Milwaukee, it is an interesting game that you can buy from the Steam Store today.
Carrion
Continuing with the theme of gore and blood from the beginning of the conference, a 2D shooter where you as a piece of meat with an axe to grind. Your goal is to travel through a series of macabre locations, eating anything and anyone that gets in your way. It is currently projected for a release in 2020 for console and Steam users.
Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead
It is not uncommon for IP’s to branch out in different genres, and that is exactly what has gone been done with Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundread. The changes from top down bullet hell to FPS seems to be a relatively painless one, and is apparently going to be an Arcade exclusive experience when it arrives next year, as it was displayed inside a cabinet that has a pair of Time Crisis styled lightguns.
The Messenger: Picnic Panic
The pixelated ninja platformer The Messenger was a hit with retro and modern gamers alike when it was released in 2017. A free expansion to the game is on the way named Picnic Panic, which takes the player from his stormy location to a tropical paradise filled with sun, sea and sand. Picnic Panic is set to arrive next month, for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4.
My Friend Pedro
The wonderful thing about the indie market is that you can release experimental games that can become a roaring success. That is precisely what the developers of My Friend Pedro, a rhythm based quick time action shooter are hoping for. It is currently set to be available later this month, so you can jump into action with your banana companion sooner than you dared to imagine.
