The show opened with a brand-new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake, showcasing several of the side characters with their first English vocal track as well as the reveal of Tifa Lockhart in her Remake ensemble. The scope of the first volume of the game was confirmed to be on two discs, with there being the same amount of gameplay as a modern Final Fantasy for each part.

One of the biggest changes was that the battle system has now evolved into a tactical alternative, with only one button required to perform most actions during the most intense sequences.

After FFVII’s release date was confirmed to be March 3^rd 2020, we were then given a retrospective of the first three chapters of Life is Strange 2. While the game hasn’t been as critically acclaimed as it’s predecessor, there is a certain charm about the journey of Sean and Daniel Diaz that many players are itching to complete when the next episodes release later this year.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered was next out of the gate, showing some all new gameplay footage, along with an announcement of a mobile port alongside the console releases.

A revisit to the world of Octopath Traveler was featured in a trailer celebrating it’s recent PC release, showcasing the vibrant world and the eight playable heroes alongside a set of challenges that players can try to accomplish.

To round off the retro revivals for the moment, the remastered port of The Last Remnant, which was highly celebrated on Xbox 360, was announced to be releasing that very day for the Nintendo Switch.

The world of Dragon Quest was next on the itinerary, with a highly enthusiastic showcase of Dragon Quest Builders 2 for the Nintendo Switch, PC and PS4. Alongside this, the definitive edition of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age was given a release window of Autumn 2019, showcasing the orchestrated soundtrack missing from the original release, as well as the 16-bit styled classic mode as an alternative to the beautiful 4K 3D graphics.

The next games to be revealed were a top down racing title named Circuit Superstars, and some more DLC for Battalion 1944: Eastern Front. After this, it was time for the Kingdom Hearts universe to make its grand appearance. The long awaited Re:Mind DLC for Kingdom Hearts III was teased, with it’s release date set to be later this year.

The Stormbringer DLC for Final Fantasy XIV drew the crowd’s attention, with several revisits to older concepts as well as all new gameplay systems enhancing the highly popular MMORPG. After an all new trailer to tease the eventual release of Dying Light 2, we were treated to the news that two previously untranslated RPGs, Romacing Saga 3 and Saga Scarlet Grace Ambitions are making their way to the west.

Mobile gamers were given a reason to celebrate, as War of the Visions, a whole new title in the same universe as the highly popular mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius was reported to be in development.

The next game to be showcased was a new shooter named Outriders, which has been in development for some time by the makers of Bulletstorm. The release date for Oninaki, an isometric RPG from the makers of I Am Setsuna was announced for August 22^nd 2019, as well as the phenomenal news that Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is finally in development, with a projected 2019 release window currently on the cards.

The final game to be showcased this year is possibly the biggest announcement of them all. The Marvel Avengers game which was teased earlier this year was given several sneak peek trailers and interspliced gameplay footage, as well as the news that new content will be added to the game for several years after its release on May 15th 2020.

The superhero action title will feature a single player campaign, as well as four player co-op action and all new heroes from the Marvel universe being added to the roster free of charge, alongside the already confirmed cast. Several high calibre voice actors were confirmed to voice the main heroes, with Travis Willingham taking on the role of Thor, Laura Bailey voicing Black Widow, Troy Baker voicing The Hulk and Nolan North playing Tony ‘Iron Man’ Stark.

With that, the conference came to a triumphant close. It would be fair to say that Square Enix have given us a lot to look forward to, as well as a host of trips down memory line into the bargain.
