Social gaming behemoth Zynga have announced quarterly profits of $4.1 million, thanks mainly to the strong performance of FarmVille 2. However the company has seen a drop in the overall number of players across it’s games library. The number of unique monthly paying customers has dropped to 2.5 million, a fall of over a million paying users per month since last quarter. Daily active users and monthly active users also declined over the quarter, with daily users down 21 percent to 52 million and monthly users down 13 percent to 253 million.
Zynga CEO, Mark Pincus said in a statement that FarmVille 2 was a “breakout hit” with nearly 40 million players every month. Other Zynga titles have not enjoyed such success though, with The Ville, Empires & Allies, Dream Zoo, and Zynga City all being shut down. Despite this Pincus is confident that Zynga can continue and expand upon it’s successes in the past year, saying in a statement “In 2013 we’re excited to bring this new class of social games to mobile phones and tablets and build a network that offers an easier, better way for people to play together.”
