Black Ops III has taken Advanced Warfare’s thruster packs but made them feel and move a lot differently.

It’s incredibly easy to mistime a jump or think you have more fuel left than you do, so give some the Freerun challenges a shot from the main menu to understand just how the wall running, swimming and boosting works.

A lot of multiplayer maps in Black Ops III don’t follow the traditional three lane system, so there’s often a lot of different routes and corners you need to be aware of. Especially given the verticality in the game, so play slow at first.

Even though you now have unlimited sprint, take your time and learn the maps until you feel confident in quickening your game. It’s easier to stay alive when you’re checking every corner.

Along with the previous tip, play simple gamemodes like Team Deathmatch and Free-for-All before jumping into the faster paced, more complex modes. It’ll allow you to learn the maps without having to focus on too many objectives and different spawn points.

Modes like Uplink and Safeguard can be very fast paced, so focus on being able to shoot straight before trying to accomplish objectives at the same time.

Every scorestreak in the game is obviously there to benefit you and your team, but no matter how cool and impressive the high tier ones are, they’re absolutely useless if you’re not skilled enough to actually achieve them.

So while calling in a Mothership may be your dream, running simpler scorestreaks like a HC-XD, UAV and Hellstorm is the better option as you can achieve them far more consistently.

At the start of the game, you have five class slots open to you – make one of them have a launcher as the secondary! There’s nothing worse than having a sky full of enemy controlled scorestreaks and no way of taking them down and it’s easy to switch to the class as soon as you hear one being called in.

This includes UAV’s, not just aggressive Wraiths and H.A.T.R’s, as even though they’re small and basic, they provide a huge benefit to the enemy team.

Specialists are a now addition to the series, and it’s vital that you pick one suited to your playstyle and also the gamemode you’re playing. For example, the Ruin specialist has two abilities ideal for run and gun players; it’s not an ideal choice if you’re using a sniper or playing defensively.

On the flip side, the Nomad’s H.I.V.E and the Reaper’s Scythe are much better utilised by players who prefer to sit back.

Black Ops III is one of the best Call of Duty games for players who like to ‘soundwhore’ – the act of listening for an enemies footsteps to locate their position. Much easier to do with proper headphones, but even if you’re playing with the sound through your TV, listen out for footsteps as it could just save your life as someone sneaks up on you.
