In keeping with the original Pokemon games on Gameboy, to begin the game you must choose a starter. The defaults are Squirtle, Charmander and Bulbasaur. However, there is another option; you can replicate Pokemon Yellow and have Pikachu as your stater.

When Professor Willow tells you to choose your pokemon the original three will spawn in front of you, walk away until they are forced to re-spawn again. Repeat this a few times and they will come back with a fourth. This can take some time and a lot of walking as the GPS features are not completely up to scratch yet.

From there tap Pikach and throw a Pokeball at his head to catch him. Voila, you’ve got your favourite little pocket monster!
