After his absence from Super Smash Bros Brawl and the initial line up of the Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros, it was thought that Mewtwo would not be returning to the crossover fighting series. These fears were laid to rest in a Nintendo Direct last year, when it was announced that owners of both versions of the latest game would receive the Pokemon as a playable character for free, as long as they registered both games with Club Nintendo.
In an interview revealed today, series director Masahiro Sakurai has announced that development is nearly complete, so we will be seeing him added to the roster very soon. It is not currently know if he will be available for purchase, but considering his popularity, it would be very surprising if Nintendo did not offer him as paid DLC a few weeks after release.
