During Google’s ‘Made by Google’ event, they announced an accessory for the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the Pixel Stand that supports wireless charging and the ability to turn your phone into more of a bedside or office-side assistant. Here’s everything we know about the device so far.
How much will it cost?
In the UK the stand will cost you £69 and will be usable for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The price is more than other wireless chargers on the market but time will tell if the price matches the product’s worth.
When is the Google Pixel Stand’s release date
Google’s stand will be available in stores and online from November 1st in the UK.
Google Store, as well as some selected retailers including Carphone Warehouse, O2, Vodafone, Three, EE, John Lewis & Partners, and Sky Mobile, will also be selling the stand.
What are the stand features & specs?
During the ‘Made by Google’ event the Pixel 3 was not the only product of interest. Their latest stand will work to power any phone that supports wireless charging not just the Pixel 3 line-up, giving more users the choice to buy it as their wireless charging solution.
The only support phone’s need is the Qi wireless charging standard, so it is possible to use it to charge the latest iPhone Samsungsumg devices.
If you do have a Pixel 3 or Pixel XL, then while in the dock the phone will turn into a smart alarm clock – made to be used in the day and overnight by your bedside.
This is further followed up by the phone adapting the screen to mimic sunrise adjusting the screen’s brightness and showing you the weather for today, what is in your calendar for the day and the usual helpful info such as traffic information.
When in the dock at night the Pixel 3 will automatically go into “do not disturb” mode. One other feature mentioned is being able to use it as a smart photo frame, with the phone cycling through your Google Photos.
You can also use the usual voice commands to use the phone as a Google Home smart speaker, just say the usual “Ok, Google” to ask it questions around your schedule or control your other smart devices around the home.
It’s also unclear at the moment if the Alarm Clock mode would work with any wireless stand, we can take a guess and say “no” but there is no confirmation from Google at this point.
Fast charging is built into the stand but they have not mentioned yet how fast the charging is, which should come out with reviews in the coming weeks on actual usage.
