Back in 2010, Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption, an action packed sandbox adventure game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which was a spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Set in the days of the Wild West. it followed the exploits of John Marston, a man who is forced to confront his troubled past as an outlaw after his family are held to ransom. Filled with a vast assortment of loyal friends, twisted enemies and horseback riding across miles of desert landscapes, it became one of the company’s greatest successes outside of their landmark Grand Theft Auto franchise.
Earlier this week, several images appeared on Rockstar Games official Twitter account, and their followers took this as a teaser that the long awaited sequel was on the horizon. Today, their hopes were confirmed to be accurate, as it has been announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 is in development, and will be arriving on Sony and Microsoft’s current generation consoles at the end of next year. No official details have been revealed alongside the announcement, but many fans will be hoping that they will continue the story of the Marston family, after the dramatic events that took place at the end of the original game.
As well as announcing the existence of the game, Rockstar Games have revealed that the very first trailer of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released this Thursday at 4pm GMT, or 11am ET if you live in the United States. Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Fall 2017.
