It is no secret that sometimes game developers leave behind unfinished or additional features inside their games that are only accessible via hacking devices such as Action Replay, or custom firmware that is installed entirely at the risk of the end user. In this case, it is fair to say that Bandai Namco, who have announced that Digimon World Next Order will only receive an English release for PlayStation 4, have left themselves open for criticism following the developments that were made in the homebrew scene earlier this week.
For anyone who has access to the Henkaku exploit for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV, which has been officially patched in later versions of both console’s firmware, it is possible to unlock a complete English translation of the portable release of the game several months earlier than the official release window. While this will not impact sales too heavily, it does make you wonder why Bandai Namco did not release a digital copy of the game for portable console owners in the West, at around the same time as the Japanese release, and provide the PlayStation 4 version next year when they have room in their release schedule.
Digimon World Next Order will be released on PS4 in Europe in 2017, and will retail for approximately £39.99. If you are interesting in seeing more about the game, be sure to visit our coverage of the launch trailer that was announced last week.
