For many years, NIS America have provided Europe with the opportunity to play games developed by ATLUS by publishing them on their behalf, such as Persona 4 Golden, Etrian Odyssey Untold and Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker. As of June 24th 2016, this long standing agreement will come to an end, after the release of remastered 2D RPG Odin Sphere Leifhrasir.
According to an interview with managing director Takuro Yamashita, ATLUS have become more particular about who it chose to publish their titles after the company was bought by Sammy Holdings Inc, a division of former console manufacturer SEGA. Despite breaking ties, he was highly appreciative of ATLUS for providing them with the opportunity to make NIS America more recognised within the region, as a result of publishing their software.
Even though we can appreciate the reasoning behind the decision, it has left ATLUS fans in Europe feeling slightly dismayed, as it was predicted that company would publish the long awaited Persona 5, as well as a variety of upcoming software that ATLUS will develop in the years to come.
