The Culling is Now Live with Surprise Early Access Release

Originally planned to release on March 8, The Culling has gone live four days early on Steam Early Access. Amongst the countless delays – not looking at anyone specific Naughty Dog – it’s a welcome surprise. Developed by Xaviant Games, The Culling is essentially Battle Royale in video game format, something that the video game industry has been missing for a considerable amount of time as only mods for games such as ARMA III and Minecraft have attempted the style so far.

Last week saw a closed alpha take place with evident success, as it even hit the third most watched game on Twitch at one point.Xaviant Games clearly got a little too eager and excited and pushed forward the release. I was lucky enough to take part in the aforementioned closed alpha and while it was obviously still a work in progress, I came away impressed for an alpha. If you’re expecting a finished product then I wouldn’t recommend purchasing while it’s in Early Access, or if you’re holding out for a first impressions post there should be one up next week.

For those unaware, The Culling features solo or teams of two multiplayer in which the goal is simply to survive by killing the other participants. You can craft different weapons for each scenario and find stat buffs, equipment and armour by looting buildings and crates. The Culling is currently available on Steam Early Access for £9.89, 10% off until March 11. You can watch the announcement trailer below.
