Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U in 2016

After being long rumoured to be in development, a new console Paper Mario is coming to the Wii U, named Paper Mario Colour Splash. Set on Prism Island, Paper Mario Colour Splash sees Mario fighting against a colour draining menace which seeks to turn this rainbow island into a land of black and white. To combat this monochromatic plague, Mario gains the power to splash colour onto surfaces around the island, returning colour to the land by painting drained areas.

In battle, you use battle cards similar to those found in Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam Bros to attack enemies. By loading up these cards with particular colours, you can do extra damage and attack multiple enemies at once with waves of paint. It seems this Paper Mario adventure is more like Sticker Star than Thousand Year Door, to the annoyance of many old school Paper Mario fans like me. I don’t understand why Nintendo has dumbed down the series to this item based combat system, especially since Sticker Star was deemed mediocre by most people. I really hope Colour Splash returns to the humour of Paper Mario installments like Thousand Year Door but based on the short snippet of footage seen in this Direct, I’m not holding out much hope.

Expect more news on Paper Mario Colour Splash in the coming months.
