Eight PS2 Remasters Available Today On PlayStation 4

The PlayStation 2 is widely recognised as one of the best selling consoles of all time, and currently holds the record for longest amount of time where new games are officially developed for it. In order to celebrate their past, Sony will release eight of the best titles for the console onto the PlayStation 4 later today, with platform exclusive enhancements found only in these releases, such as Trophy support, 1080p native rendering and Remote Play. As an added bonus, it is also possible to view the game’s manual on the PlayStation app, or a Remote Play device if you so choose.

Eight games are included in the initial line up, varying in price depending on certain factors. Several games are already available as PS2 Classics on the PlayStation 3, but it is currently unconfirmed if owners of these titles will receive a free update or a discount. The European prices are yet to be confirmed, but in America they will range from $9.99 to $14.99. The list of PS2 games to make it out of the starting gate are as follows –

Several other games have been confirmed via footage or leaked PEGI ratings, such as Parappa the Rapper 2, Ape Escape 2 and Dark Chronicle, but when these titles will be released is not currently known. Regardless, it is great to see several of the PS2’s older games receiving new attention, and if they can move across the PlayStation 3’s PS2 Classics range in the near future, they will definitely convince older fans to take the jump back in time.
