One of the main restrictions about RPG’s with class systems are that once you choose one for your characters, most of the time you are stuck with your decision. Etrian Odyssey Untold offered a way to circumvent this problem with Grimoire Stones, items which are like Technical Mechines in the Pokemon universe. Simply attach one to a character in your party, and they will learn the skill that has been embedded into it, even if it would normally inaccessible to that character because of their class.

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold expands on the Grimoire Stone system by allowing you to giving your unwanted attack bestowing rocks to a character named Regina, who will recycle them into all new Grimoire Stones whilst you are traversing the labyrinths. The more stones that you give to her will determine the rarity of the item you receive in return, so sometimes holding onto the weaker items may prove to be worth your while. Grimoire Stones now bestow skills onto your weapons as well as your characters, so they allow for even greater customization than before.
