After its successful run last year at Millennium Point, Electronic Dojo are coming back with the 5th installment of the Midlands’ biggest tournament series with VSFighting 5. This tournament will be held at the Birmingham REP Theatre, next to the new Central Library and promises to be as hype as last year. The current line up of games includes Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Guilty Gear Xrd, Mortal Kombat X, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will make a guest appearance in the form of a special high-stakes robin robin tournament, where players will have to pay £300 in order to enter. You will have to face down a gauntlet of 5 other players in a series of first to 10 matches for the full prize pot, so be prepared for some very stiff competition. Entrants will also get entry to any other tournament as well as a custom T-shirt, should they wish to play in this high roller event. There is also the possibility of certain side events for games like Super Smash Bros Melee and Killer Instinct, so keep an eye on both the Facebook event and the official VSFighting website for more details.
As for pricing, this is the Midlands and arguably the UK’s biggest fighting game major so weekend passes start from £25, with tournament entry costing £10 on top of that. This will mean a sizable prize pool for all games and great production values from the Electronic Dojo team. I attended VSFighting 4 just as a spectator last year and can confirm the high quality and sheer hype that comes from this tournament. You do not want to miss this year.
If you wish to register and prepay your entry fee, you can go to the official registration page to confirm your place. Registration closes on July 31st but places will fill up quick so make sure you put your name down soon. I will be competing in Super Smash Bros for Wii U and may also do some Mortal Kombat X friendlies so feel free to body me at your own discretion. Check out the teaser trailer for the event below and keep checking the VSFighting site for updates on rulesets and special guests for each tournament.
