New Mortal Kombat X News Comes Out From PSX

Now that the dust has settled after the Playstation Experience, a slow trickle of information has come out about the new installment in Netherrealm’s brutal series, Mortal Kombat X. In interviews with the game’s executive producer Shaun Himmerick, some noteworthy details have been confirmed about this iteration of Mortal Kombat.

According to Shaun, all stages will have interactable elements, similar to Injustice: Gods Among Us and while the game will not have day and night versions of each stage, like in Mortal Kombat 9, there will a ‘dynamic weather system’ which will change the weather and look of each battle. Babalities are confirmed to not be in this version of Mortal Kombat and that the game will be entering its final stage of development come January, with many characters already complete back at Netherrealm. In that same vein, the character select screen is very likely to change between now and the game’s release. As for online, it seems that King of the Hill mode from MK9 will be returning in some form in Mortal Kombat X, but it is uncertain as to whether this mode will even be named ‘King of the Hill’.

Speaking of January, it seems that that is when loads of information will drop about the game, including new characters and story details and this information blowout will stretch into February, so keep your eyes peeled for then. What was also highlighted by Shaun in interviews is that Quan Chi’s revenants (the fighters who died in Mortal Kombat 9) will play a key role in the game’s story so maybe expect zombie Smoke or undead Cyrax as characters to be revealed soon. The story will be much grittier and cinematic according to Shaun, with fatalities actually happening during Story Mode and affecting the plot, so no-one is safe in this version.

A Goro reveal trailer is also on the way and to expect that around January time, due to the information blowout scheduled for that month. Check out this video below from someone who was at the Playstation Experience and interviewed Shaun Himmerick and look out for more MKX news in the new year:
