Sarkeesians’ Speech On Video Games Cancelled After Terror Threat

Terror threats toward a feminist blogger has forced her to cancel a planned speech on video games.

Yesterday, media critic and blogger, Anita Sarkeesian, was due to give a speech on feminism and video games, but was forced to cancel it after terror threats from an unidentified suspect.
The speech was due to be delivered at Utah State University, but Sarkeesian deemed it to not be safe when Police officials claimed they would not perform weapon searches prior to the event. After receiving threats of “The Deadliest school shooting in American history” Sarkeesians’ original plan was to go ahead and give the speech due to increased security, but due to Utahs open-carry laws, allowing for possession of firearms, it was then cancelled.

The threat email was sent to several staff members of USU the day before the lecture was set to take place. Sarkeesians’ Twitter page, @FemFreq revealed that she wasn’t even informed about the threats by the staff of USU, but that she learned of them through news stories after already landing in Utah.

Though the sender of the email claimed to be a student at USU, police believe that the suspect to not actually be affiliated with the University at all.

The threat letter can be found in its entirety, below.
