Whether you enjoy Assassin’s Creed or not, it is here to stay, or at least according to Ubisoft VP of creative, Lionel Raynaud.
Speaking with Edge, Raynaud explained the companies stance on the annualisation of their landmark series. “We are able to offer people a new Assassin’s Creed every year because they want Assassin’s Creed every year,” Raynaud stated, “As long as this is true we would be very stupid to not satisfy this need“.
While the Raynaud’s view is sure to ruffle a few feathers, it would be difficult to prove it as false. Each yearly iteration brings a healthy increase in sales, with the most recent title, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, soaring above 100 million shipped units.
Raynauld also touched on the weight that such a quick turnaround puts on the company – “It puts a lot of pressure on us to create something that will never disappoint“. Ubisoft may have access to some of the industry’s greatest talent, but only have 2 years or so to put together a solid product is extremely demanding.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity was only announced earlier this week, with Assassin’s Creed: Comet still unannounced despite details being leaked. With Unity focusing on the new generation of consoles, Ubisoft will hopefully be able to deliver a fresh Assassin’s Creed experience this fall.
