Back when digital games first arrived, there were many that feared that physical boxes would soon go out of fashion, and that over time they would disappear. It would seem that in some respects, this prediction has come true, as Electronic Arts have announced that from next month, they will no longer sell physical copies of their games through their Origin Store client.
Given EA’s approach to the digital market, this move is not much for a surprise. The real question is, will other retailers follow suit when they see that downloading games through legal clients is becoming more popular? As no one in the video game industry has a crystal ball, it is not possible to tell if physical boxes will disappear. To read their announcement for yourself, be sure to check the official Origin website.
