To celebrate the release of Mario Kart 8, Nintendo have decided to re-release the original game on the Wii U Virtual Console. Originally released in 1992, Super Mario Kart refined the racing genre, and inspired many similar franchises to offer their own spin off titles, such as Crash Team Racing and Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing.
Starting this Thursday, Super Mario Kart will be available to download from the eShop for the modest price of £5.49/€7.99. For the first time in Europe, gamers will receive the 60hz version of the game, meaning that black borders and PAL frame rate issues are not going to be present in this release.
As an additional bonus, anyone who buys Super Mario Kart from Thursday until the release date of Mario Kart 8, will receive a discount equal to the price they paid for the original game.
