Creator of controversial game Flappy Birds, Dong Nguyen, has stated that he will remove it from app stores.
Tweeting his disappointment at how Flappy Birds has effected his life, he tweeted:
I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.
— Dong Nguyen (@dongatory) February 8, 2014
He went on to state that this take-down wasn’t due to legal issues, but because the creation of the game has negatively effected his life.
In the short time Flappy Birds has been in the public eye, it has been heralded as a fun little diversion, to the reason the games industry is apparently going down the toilet. Gamers are prone to over-reaction and hyperbolic statements, so if this is the reason for Nguyen’s take-down, it gives a human face to the issue of over-zealous hate-mongers.
