Assassin’s Creed 4’s Freedom Cry DLC Becoming A Standalone Title

Ubisoft has announced that its DLC episode for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, entitled Freedom Cry, will be coming as a standalone title to the PS3 and PS4 on February 19th and PC on February 25th.

Originally a piece of DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV, Freedom Cry tells the story of what happened to Adewale, Edward Kenway’s first mate, 15 years after the events of Assassin’s Creed IV. After being shipwrecked in Haiti, Adewale must assemble a crew and captain a ship in order to fight the brutal slavery of the Caribbean in the 18th century.

Ubisoft also released a new live action trailer, which also shows Adewale sporting his new machete and blunderbuss.

Strangely, it doesn’t appear to be coming to the Xbox 360 or Xbox One – players will need a copy of Assassin’s Creed IV and buy the Freedom Cry content as DLC for it. Perhaps this will be a good purchase for those who own Assassin’s Creed IV on one system and want to buy the DLC on another, or maybe Ubisoft thinks that the game will be good enough to carry itself away from the Black Flag.
