The world is coming to an end and the saviour has come to save the world from destruction. That is the premise for the next instalment in the Lightning trilogy, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Back at the EuroGamer Expo last year we were able to try out the game, but with the demo now released on PSN and Xbox Live we are able to show you the action. In the following two part preview of the game, have a look at what I think about the title and how it is making its mark on the series.

Part one will show you the cutscene quality of the game and my initial thoughts after playing Final Fantasy XIII previously. Part two goes into detail about the combat systems and the Schemata mechanic. As well as having occasional allies in battle that you cannot control directly, you will have access to a variety of different outfits and skill using the Schemata function. These take the original idea from Final Fantasy X-2’s dress sphere system and takes it to a new level as you can actively customise your skill sets and outfits. The demo also includes my personal favourite mode, Dragoon.
