The Last of Us: Left Behind to Bring in New Combat Variety

Sony and Naughty Dog have announced the first few elements of their new story DLC for The Last of Us. Known as Left Behind, the extra content will look to re-introduce a similar experience to that of the main game, but it will also bring in not only new characters but re-invented combat. This time, Ellie is joined by a teenage girl known as Riley who has survived and lives in the quarantine zone with Ellie. Players will see what exactly happened at the boarding school from Ellie’s past and why she and Riley ending up leaving.

In contrast to the main campaign however, Ellie will be the only usable character in Left Behind. This will make for an incredibly different experience as she is not yet the girl who we know through the main story line who is both self-sufficient and combat ready. In a comment on the PS Blog, Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli suggested that the combat, “will be familiar, with some new touches and nuance to it.”

Monacelli would not confirm how long this extra content will last on average, only stating that it, “varies from player to player but it’s a good chunk of time.”

A release date for Left Behind so far suggests, “early 2014″ but what can be confirmed is that the title will be selling for $14.99 or free with The Last of Us season pass. An official release date is expected soon.
