Tekken: A Man Called X, a live-action film to be based on Namco’s Tekken fighting franchise is in development, reports Cinema Today.
The film will star martial artist Kane Kosugi who announced his participation in A Man Called X on his website last month. According to Kosugi the movie will be a prequel to Tekken, the 2010 film from Crystal Sky which got a theatrical release in Japan but went straight to DVD in the US.
Crystal Sky originally announced the Tekken prequel in May 2012 and will be working with Lionsgate Films. The see the films as “part of a franchise of movies,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It is unclear if Namco Bandai will be involved with the production of A Man Called X, after the Tekken franchise director Katsuhiro Harada called the 2012 film “terrible” and the series’ producers “were not able to supervise that movie.”
