Almost in direct response to Microsoft and its announcement yesterday that it had sold 3 million Xbox Ones, Sony announced at its CES 2014 keynote that it had sold 4 million PS4 units as of December 28th, 2013, reports The Verge.

While many will be quick to jump at these figures and proclaim PS4 the winner of the console race, the PS4 launched earlier than the Xbox One, at a lower price, and in more markets than Microsoft’s rival console.

Arguably, the PS4 had the weaker lineup of exclusive titles vs. Xbox One exclusives Dead Rising 3 and Forza Motorsport 5, but if Sony hasn’t won the console war, they certainly won the battle for last Christmas’ launch.

Even though the numbers may seem telling, the console race is still in its very early stages, and in the grand scheme of things, it’s neck-and-neck between the two console makers.
