VGU Awards: Top 5 Hardware

So far we have seen the best that games have had to offer this year, but what good are games if you have nothing to play them with? It’s time to have a look at hardware and pick the top 5 best pieces from this year. This top 5 is for PC hardware, so there will be no mention of some certain consoles that have been recently released, but they would have certainly made it on the list if they were.

5: The Logitech G430 Headset

Sound is something usually overlooked by gamers, but it is more important than they think. The Logitech G430 is at the peak of good headset design. With a long and sturdy cable, large ear cups and high quality sound output and microphone, the G430 is a great piece of kit for anyone looking for a headset that is value for money. You can check out our review of the G430 if it hitting the top 5 has peaked your interest, a great headset and well deserving of the 5th spot.

4: The Razer Deathadder 2013 Edition

Most PC gamers will have heard of Razer, and if you’ve heard of Razer then you’ve heard of the Deathadder. A staple mouse for years in the FPS scene the Deathadder has a sleek design with a nice shape for grip and comfort. The 2013 edition of the mouse gives a matte finish to the mouse instead of the glossy and rubber finish of the 3.5g, it also has grooved rubber along the sides for extra grip. The staple mouse for many eSports professionals, the Deathadder 2013 takes a great mouse and just gives it more bite.

3: The Logitech G19s

Making their second appearance in the top 5, Logitech brought us the G19S keyboard this year. The ‘S’ series of hardware from Logitech is basically a re-release of an older product but with changes based on community feedback which is why the ‘S’ series is so good. Thanks to user feedback the G19s has improved anti-ghosting key registry and fingerprint-resistant coating on the keys. Easy to use, comfortable for long periods of time and the build quality we’ve come to expect from Logitech, the G19s is a great keyboard and worthy to be in the top 3 pieces of hardware for this year.

2: The Razer Goliathus Speed Edition mouse mat

Yep, number 2 is a mouse mat. Although unexpected in a hardware line-up, mouse mats are as important to gamers as…well, a mouse. The Goliathus has great quality from it’s stitching to it’s materials. The rubber underside makes for a no-slip surface on most desks and the cloth top side gives smooth and precise movements. The mouse mat is even machine washable so can be made to feel brand new if you take good care of it. It may not be a technical wonder, but the Goliathus is a solid purchase for all PC gamers.

1: The SteelSeries Sensei RAW – Any edition

We have reviewed many editions of the Sensei RAW this year. From the Rubberised version, all the way to the brand new Na’Vi version and most of the models in between and it has always scored high. With it’s symmetrical design, making it perfect for left or right handed users, and it’s simplistic features the Sensei RAW is the ultimate all-rounder when it comes to gaming mice. Perfect for FPS, MMO or RTS gamers the Sensei looks good, feel good and performs well. There are so many editions to choose from that they’re basically like an accessory as much as they are a piece of hardware, so choose your style, get your mouse and get gaming.
