Sony’s Studio Liverpool has reformed under the name Firesprite, IGN revealed today.
The studio, which is made of up former Studio Liverpool personnel, helped to create The PlayRoom, the augmented-reality app built into the PlayStation 4. Studio Liverpool was once known as Psygnosis of course, and created such classic franchises as WipeOut, among others.
Speaking to IGN, the Managing Director of Firesprite, Graeme Ankers said:
“The founding team met up socially after Studio Liverpool and we talked about all the things we had achieved over the years, the platform launches, the variety of games, going back to [the] Psygnosis days and through to F1 and WipEout. We knew we wanted to carry on making great games.”
Currently the studio is working on a new game, although it didn’t divulge any more details than that. However, Technical Director Chris Roberts revealed to IGN the interesting development pipeline they have planned for the game:
“We have been working hard on creating a new game engine and tool chain that allows us to put the creative power in the best hands – the artists and designers,”
