Microsft has always promised that every Xbox One could double as a devkit, and now that the console has been released, it seems that people are discovering how to unlock these settings.
The following video comes from GameTuts and shows us how to access a secret menu on the Xbox One, called Developer Settiings.
Engadget reports that this can cause an error which forces the xbox One to boot over and over again, making it unplayable. Microsoft have themselves commented on the matter, saying that “this alone does not change the console into a development kit”.
The full response is as follows:
“Changing the settings in this menu is only intended for developers for Xbox One, and this alone does not turn the console into a development kit. We strongly advise consumers against changing these settings as it could result in their Xbox One becoming unusable. Customers who have put their consoles into this developer setting can revert by restoring factory defaults under Settings / System, select Restore Factory Defaults.”
Xbox One’s full devkit potential will come at some point in the future, which presumably means that these settings will become a lot less risky to enable. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
