Jason Rubin: “Nintendo’s Irrelevant In The Console Business”

On a recent episode of GameTrailers’ Bonus Round panel show, former THQ president Jason Rubin has stated that Nintendo is failing fast in the home console business.

However, Rubin also praised games such as Mario, Zelda and the veteran Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto, describing them as a worldwide treasure.

It’s interesting as the Wii, the predecessor to the Wii U was the clear winner in the console race vs the PS3 and Xbox 360, as it sold 100 million units.

Rubin isn’t the only one saying Nintendo are under-performing. Analyst Michael Pachter has also condemned the console, saying that Nintendo “steadfastly refuse to consider the product is not interesting”.

The great hope for the console is that it will receive a killer app, and Nintendo hoped that Super Mario 3D World, the latest flagship Mario platformer, would boost sales of the machine, but despite rave reviews hasn’t achieved this goal.

Do you think Rubin is right? should Mario come to Xboxes? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
